The new and improved Tampa Bay BBIC is leading the way in reshaping the business landscape in the bay area.  Albert Lee, president of the organization is spearheading a movement like none other with business mixers.  He has rebuilt the organization with two dynamic hires, Andrew Ware of Tampa and Taisha Scantling of St. Petersburg.  These individuals along with the administrative help of Pauline Reyes, a 26 year employee of the BBIC, are implementing new programs and services that are beneficial to the business community and in one attendee's words, "this is economic development".  One of the programs by Mr. Lee is C.A.T.C.H., Coachable, Action Oriented, Teachable, Collaborative, and Helpful.  An entreprenuerial training program designed to assist business owners in financial literacy, business acumen, and access to capital.  Albert Lee has been with the BBIC for the past 29 years and stated "I want to partner with people and organizations to help us and  not just take away.  If you are engaged in commerce, there is a potential to do business. We need to find ways to get more capital into your hands.  We have capital and we have capital to loan.”  You can find information about the program on their website at http://www.tampabaybbic.com/ .

The event held at the Ybor Room on Hillsborough Community College campus was a great business experience with entertainment by the Tim Hancock Band.. Business owners from across the bay area engaged with each others at the very well attended function  Food vendors lined the perimeter of the room with exquisite tastes and a few select speakers shared informative and entertaining ingredients to success.  Susan Chris from Microsoft talked about the free event space they have at International Mall as well as the availablitity of software and different programs designed for business.  Ester Fife of Operation Hope spoke about their free 12 week program for financial literacy.  The program is designed to assist with business plans and obtaining funding. Long time friend, Harold Gillespie, assists with the program in its administration division.

The most exciting speaker of the night was Mark Ansley of Ansley Foods. This Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) graduate talked about his road to success.  He started the talk with this quote "One of us is not as smart as all of us."  He had several ventures in business, a construction company, a mortgage company, a consulting company and even a food truck.  He talked about how he stumbled into a military contract by accident and sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time.  He was just that when one day while he food truck was set up at a neighborhood Walmart a military officer came by and tasted his ribs from his food truck.  The rest is history.  His first big deal from the military was 40,000 lbs of ribs and he had 3 days to make it happen.  That order equated to $250,000 in raw material and he only had $4300 in his account.  Ater no banks would lend him money on a Purchase Order from the Department of Defense worth a 1/4 of a million dollars, a friend helped him with the funding. He said  “Everyday we wake up with faith or fear, whatever we focus on, that’s going to be the reality.”  He went on to say that God has a way of orchestrating things in your life and said he lives by www and I thought he was talking about a website but it was in fact his motto, “Got to make your Work your Worship and you Win.”
